Experience an infusion: what awaits you in the event sauna at Meri Sauna

For many, it is the highlight of every sauna visit: the "Aufguss" (infusion ceremony). Water meets hot stones, scents fill the room, and the sauna master distributes the heat with a towel. We will show you what to expect from an infusion ceremony at Meri Sauna – and how to enjoy it to the fullest.

What happens during an infusion ceremony

During an infusion ceremony, the sauna master pours water, often infused with selected aromatic essences, onto the hot sauna stones. The resulting steam briefly increases the perceived temperature. With precise towel movements, the warm air is then distributed throughout the room – every sauna master has their own individual style.

The event sauna: our home for infusions

At Meri Sauna, infusion ceremonies mainly take place in the large event sauna. It features rustic decor, a sauna heater encased in natural stone, and is heated to 90–100 °C. Infusions are held several times a day – you can find the exact times in the infusion schedule at meri-sauna.de.

Things are a bit gentler in the herbal sauna: there, a copper cauldron filled with water and aromas placed over lava stones slowly releases scents. The infusions change with the season.

How to enjoy your infusion ceremony

  • Arrive in time: The door remains closed during the ceremony. It is better to arrive a few minutes early.
  • The right towel: Bring a sauna towel large enough to sit or lie on completely – it gets crowded during an infusion. A large sauna towel or a lightweight hammam towel is ideal.
  • It's milder lower down: Heat rises. If it gets too hot for you, move to a lower bench.
  • Listen to your body: You are free to leave at any time if it becomes too much for you – preferably between two rounds of fanning.
  • Cool down and rest afterwards: After the infusion, head out into the fresh air, take a shower, or go for a dip in the swimming pond – then relax on a lounger.

Infusion events at Meri Sauna

Several times a year, we host special sauna evenings with unique infusion themes, such as Hollywood Night or Medieval Evening. All dates can be found on the Meri Sauna events page.

A touch of infusion for your home

You can also bring the sauna scents home with you: using an aroma diffuser and our natural essential oils. Important: These oils are intended for room fragrance and are not for use as sauna infusions.
