Sauna in winter: Meri Sauna in the snow
Share
When the weather turns cold outside, the best time of year begins for many: sauna season. And hardly any place showcases this as beautifully as a snow-covered sauna garden. Here, we'll tell you what makes winter at the Meri Sauna on Kulkwitzer See so special – and how you can prepare for it.

Heat inside, snow outside
The contrast defines winter: in the earth sauna, a fireplace burns continuously at 95 to 105 °C, while snow lies on the paths outside. For many guests, stepping into the cold air after a sauna session is the highlight of the day. In the evening, the garden is illuminated – that's when the walk between saunas becomes an experience in itself.

Warming up by the fireplace
Between sessions, the fireplace room is the most popular spot in the house during winter. Add a warm foot bath and a cup of tea – that's all a winter afternoon needs.

Sauna events in winter
During the colder months, we regularly host special sauna evenings – for example, the Medieval Evening in November, the Winter Sauna Evening in December, or the Siberian Night in February. Space is limited; you can find all dates and tickets on the Meri Sauna events page. Special opening hours apply around the holidays – these are also listed there.
How to be prepared for a winter sauna day
- Staying warm through the garden: A bath poncho with a hood or a hooded bathrobe will keep you warm on the path between saunas and protect your wet hair.
- A dry towel in reserve: In winter, a wet towel dries more slowly. A second, lightweight hamam towel fits into any bag.
- Warm tea for your break: Your tea will stay hot for hours in an IZY thermos bottle.
- Care afterwards: Cold air and hot sauna – many like to treat their skin to a rich hand or body care product afterwards.
